WRITING

At Richard Atkins we celebrate writing across the curriculum. Children have the opportunity and are encouraged to write for a range of purposes in all areas of the curriculum from EYFS up to Year 6.

We aim to encourage children to feel passionate about reading and to inspire personal interest and curiosity about a range of literacy activities.

Phonics is a strategy for reading that helps children to learn to read quickly and skilfully.  During these lessons children are taught to recognise the sounds that each letter of the alphabet makes and to identify sounds made by different combinations of letters

Mathematics holds a very high profile at Richard Atkins Primary School and we place a great deal of emphasis on high quality teaching and learning of mathematics.

At Richard Atkins we value the importance of science education.

At Richard Atkins, we value the impact that the teaching of Religious Education can have upon our children.  We believe teaching RE at primary school is important because it equips children with cultural, social, moral and spiritual knowledge that will help them become valued citizens of our society.

It is paramount that our children are taught the skills to use computers and technology with confidence and ease.

We value the importance of Physical Education at Richard Atkins.  We encourage our children to live happy and healthy lives and Physical Education is a core part of this.
